The trail left behind many dark and untold secrets
-- some of them remain forgotten in the shadows.
One of them was of the ghost of Robert Lovecraft.
No one knew what become of him after his wife died
of AIDS, about 4 years ago. Some say he hung
himself in the cellar of the old Assemblies of God
church which he attended. He was trying to hide the
truth behind her death -- the truth behind her
illness. All that remained of him was a wheelchair
-- the chair kept a dark, horrifying secret. The
wheels of the chair would leave a trail of blood --
the ghostly chair no one would talk about but some
would say that it belong to Morella, his paralyzed
love.
Two months later I was sitting in the cafe near where the police found Robert Lovecraft’s body. I was reading an article from “The Chicago Sun Times” which was talking about the incident -- none of the reporters could explain the reason of the supernatural suicide or the haunting of the bottom of the church. The Pastor claimed that nothing of that nature happened -- no ever killed themself in his church or had the thought in that matter, but others in the church would disagree. Some even questioned their faith in God over the incident. Between sips of my evening cup of coffee and an occasional cigarette, a woman walked very quietly into the room wheeling another person in a wheelchair. They were both dressed in black and their skin was pale white -- they both come from Robert’s funeral. The woman in the wheelchair called herself Sylie Poe, 31 and the one wheeling her was Tabitha Lynn Stine, 16. They both were vey strange, tradgic people -- one of them was the brother of Robert and Morella’s best friend. They were also close friends with Pastor D’Arrya. They said that the church was built over a Native American burial ground in 1927, but the people who sold the property knew nothing about this or spoke of this horror. I knew in some way that the Assemblies of God church was built on hollowed ground, but the secret hid a horror that was unknown for many decades -- Morella was the last surviving member of the Cherokee tribe and the church was along part of the trail of tears. D’Arrya never spoke of this secret to even his family -- but he wrote about it in his journal. This was the last entry before he disappeared. February 14, 1987 -- I came across something very supernatural, but it was nothing that I could explain -- may God give me the wisdom to understand why this is happening. Was there a demon coming from the Shadows of the Darkness. I cannot say, but this is the Evil one himself. I pray that this is not true -- only for my own well being and for my church. Last night I was coming home from a bible study -- I was getting ready to prepare my sermon notes for the Sunday night sevice. I was haunted by a the vision of seeing my wife in the garage, letting the car run in neutral -- she was laying in the car with her skin as gray as a tombstone. To my dismay, she was laying in the back of the van -- covered herself with a blanket and left the engine running in the garage, looking very peaceful in her rest. I never knew why she ended her life, the church was never informed of her suicide -- I was too shocked by the circumstance myself, it hit me like a ton of bricks. Kyle would not understand this if I told, him -- as I know for now, she is with God. I sat down with a dear friend of the church and called the prayer line on WCFC TV38, but they weren’t that much help. I then called the Lovecrafts -- Robert would understand what I was going through right now because his wife died of AIDS after a blood tranfusion. Tabitha spoke of the coversation between Robert Lovecraft and Pastor D’Arrya. “They never spoke of the incident until the frightning account of the haunting on the porch. Richard was frozen in fear each time he walked into the garage -- He would see the spirit of his mother laying in the back of the van and wheel chair prints on the floor. His horror was a reality -- the ghostly apparition of Helen Marie D’Arrya would walk around in the house of Rev. D’Arrya. Some of the members of the church found her suicide note two to three years later and passed it on to D’Arrya.” Just after finding out about the note -- Lovecraft took his own life. He couldn’t handle the truth behind Helen Marie -- He drugged her and left the engine running in the garage. His last words were I am very sorry for what I have done Reverend. Then he brought a rope down to the cellar - the rest you read about in the newspaper.” Tabitha was weeping after telling the haunting story -- it was like something out of a horror film or some Edgar Allen Poe would put in the Telltale Heart. The reportor never really got the full article about the account -- I am living proof. I wheeled myself away from table -- remembering the accident I got into. Pastor D’Arrya hit me with his car -- all I kept seeing was that I was hitting the ground and shattering my spine at the waist -- the horror struck me as I will never walk again. The horrors of the Church of Pastor D’Arrya were left untold, but one has known of them for countless years. I speak of these thing to the police today because I don’t want anyone else suffering from his horrible acts -- the secrets within the church of Pastor D’Arrya. |
